Announcements were released today... the winners for the James D. Phelan Art Awards in Printmaking for 2007 are: Diane Rosenblum Althoff, Oakland, CA & Randy Hussong, St. Helena, CA. This is a competitive award which only happens in odd years. The award was established by the trust of James D. Phelan, a former San Francisco Mayor, United States Senator and arts supporter. The James D. Phelan Art Awards recognize the achievements of California-born artists in a variety of disciplines and is part of the Art Awards Program of The San Francisco Foundation. The Kala Art Institute, where I am currently doing an Artist In Residency, administers the printmaking competition. This year’s esteemed juror for the competition was Berin Golonu, Associate Visual Arts Curator at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
