Radical Graphics of Taller Tupac Amaru :: November 30, 2007- January 13, 2008 ::
Pro Arts presents Radical Graphics of Taller Tupac Amaru, an exhibition of over fifty limited edition prints and paintings created by members of Taller Tupac Amaru, an artist group dedicated to the production and public distribution of political posters. Radical Graphics of Taller Tupac Amaru draws a diverse selection of political, social, and community based works from the local artist group Taller Tupac Amaru. The group, founded by Chicano artists Favianna Rodriguez and Jesus Barraza, works to foster a resurgence in the printmaking medium by producing original posters for community grassroots organizations throughout California. The group's bold graphics and direct messages build upon a rich tradition of Chicano Social Activism, and the issues they explore are both timely and relevant. Their political posters address themes of education, incarceration, globalization and third world unity, and have been distributed at gatherings such as the Free Press Conference, the World Social Forum, and the National Political Hip Hop Convention.
